3 Reasons to watch this talk: Brittany Barron
1) This talk makes great use of a connect-the-dots structure. The speaker selects key elements – Beyoncé, race, and Malcolm Gladwell’s 10, 000 hours theory – and weaves between them to construct her argument, in a way that allows for new insights.
2) Good use of specificity to keep us with her, while she draws lines between the different elements. She starts by grounding us with a specific year, location and occasion. Then carefully places other events within a specified timescale – one that is integral to her core points.
3) She selects an ending that brings the talk full circle thematically. None of the dots are left unaccounted for. It’s a satisfying structure, as well as really engaging and important content.
