Can you see where you’re going?

SUPER SPEAKER CHALLENGE: JANUARY 2019

A Very Happy New Year to you!

This is the first of the Super Speaker monthly challenges, to help us keep improving as speakers throughout 2019.

We’re going to keep it super simple, as yes, we want to improve. But we also want to give ourselves a chance of succeeding, amidst all that is our busy lives!

When I work with my clients 121 we usually focus intensely for a period of 3 months. I am there as their coach, helping them meet big goals, in multiple steps.

3 months (or a quarter of the year) is a period of time that we can envisage, and even then it requires constant focusing and re-focusing to stay on track!

It can be so tempting this time of the year to just make a big list of goals for the year. It is no problem to do that. Note any speaker goals in your journal. All good.

But my challenge to you is the following…. zoom in on just the first quarter. I would recommend the following.

  1. Set a timer for 4 mins and write down your ideas for speaking goals, for just the first quarter. Make them specific. Concrete. Things you can control. So, for example, rather than write ‘Get accepted to 2 conferences’…. write ‘Research and apply to 8 conferences.’
  2. Set a timer for 3 mins and number your goals in order of priority to you. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it is just to get your brain thinking that way.
  3. Commit to actioning the 1st priority this month. If it ends up being a quick win, then great, shoot for the next. But better to achieve one, than make a list of 5 that you just don’t get around to.

I would love to hear what you are committing to. You can let me know on Twitter, Instagram or e-mail me. And if you need more prompts to get you thinking about speaker goals, then let me know, and I will make you a video.

Here’s to an excellent 2019! (And if you are reading this later on in the year, it’s never too late to decide your priorities and make a start.)

If I could leave you with one final thing, it would be to make this the year that you enjoy the process. Life is not a to-do list. I am a massive fan of finding ways to love the things we are investing our time in, even when it feels hard!

Best wishes,
